This week I was on a workshop about future activities on high performance computing. The workshop was in Ferrara which is the capital of the Province of Ferrara. It is located in the north of Italy in the administrative region Emilia-Romagna. I did a presentation about a concept how the Cell/B.E. processor can be tightly coupled via PCI Express to an other on-the-self processor. In my presentation I describe different kinds of accelerators, requirements needed to remote control a processor and all important building block of the concept, which is called directCell. Furthermore, I gave an overview of new features of the upcoming PCI Express Gen 3 standard.
